Le descente aux enfers d'Austin Watson se poursuit!

La carrière d'Austin Watson, 27 ans, a pris une tournure dramatique cette saison.

Après avoir été suspendu pour 27 matchs par la LNH en début de saison suite à un incident de violence conjugale, il était revenu au jeu depuis pour les Predators de Nashville par la suite.

Mais voilà qu'hier en soirée nous apprenions que Watson avait de nouveau été suspendu, cette fois indéfiniment, puisqu'il avait été placé en cure de désintoxication pour ses problèmes d'alcool.

Malheureusement, sa conjointe et mère de leur enfant a avoué avoir également un problème d'alcool lorsqu'elle avait défendu Watson il y a quelques mois, affirmant que c'était elle et non lui qui était à blâmer dans l'incident de violence conjugale.

La pente s'annonce donc abrupte pour Watson qui devra vaincre ses démons avant de pouvoir penser revenir au jeu, lui qui a été placé en stage 2 du processus de réhabilitation pendant qu'il était suspendu sans salaire jusqu'à nouvel ordre. Selon le journaliste Joe Rexrode du Nashville Tennessean, il s'agit d'une question de vie ou de mort à ce point-ci pour l'attaquant.

Le tout n'est pas sans rappeler la tournure que la carrière de Mike Ribeiro a pris dans les dernières années.

En 34 matchs cette saison, il compilait une fiche de 7 buts et 6 passes pour un total de 13 points. [pub]

So root with me. Root for Watson. Root for his girlfriend, Jenn Guardino, who is battling the same disease. Root for their baby daughter, who already was going to have to read about the incident her parents got into on June 16, 2018, and wonder — like the rest of the world — what exactly happened. Root for truth in Guardino’s public vows that Watson did not and does not abuse her. There are only two people in the world who will ever know for certain."
